Ask Ava: How Much Sex to Have in a Week

Q: Dear Ava. How many times should you have sex in a week? – Rob

A: Hi Rob. There is no reason not to have sex as much as you like, especially if you are in a serious relationship. Of course there will be mitigating factors that will affect a couple’s copulation numbers.

What affects sex stats in a relationship?

Schedules – a lot of couples work jobs that overlap and finding the time to sneak in a quickie may be difficult, or the need for sleep may trump a sexy session. Having young children is another reason that couples don’t have sex as often as they’d like.

Libido Levels – finding someone, whether it’s a long-time partner or friend-with-benefits, who wants sex as much or as little as you is important. Sex drives might fluctuate due to outside circumstances, but good sexual chemistry is important.

Relationship Status – the beginning of a relationship is usually a period of sexual discovery and having a lot of sex is usually a given. Then the honeymoon phase passes and things slow down. Just like your relationship, your sex life should be a work in progress. Keep things interesting by adding spice such as engaging in public sex, role playing, or the use of toys.

Over Doing It – some couple have so much fun in the bedroom, they have to take breaks from all the shaft chafing or clitoris swelling that occurs from multiple sessions a day or hours-long engagements. This volume of sex is hard to maintain, but you can have fun trying.

If you’re single and enjoying casual sex, there isn’t a magic number. As long as you’re open and honest with your hookups about your intentions and practice safe sex, go for it!

If you’re in a relationship and more than two weeks have passed without having sex, there are usually issues that are not being dealt with. Sex is an important part of any healthy relationship, and from my experience, a drought only gets worse if you avoid what’s really going on.

How many times a week do you have sex? Is it enough or would you like more?
